Basic Requirements:

  • Hold a valid FAA pilot certificate of at least Private Pilot Single Engine Land
  • Hold a valid FAA medical certificate

Required Books and Materials: Both can be obtained from Kings Aviation

  • Copy of the PA-12 POH
  • Copy of The Complete Taildragger Pilot by Harvey S. Plourde

Basic Instructional Outline:

Ground Instruction: 1-3 hours

  • Aircraft Systems
  • Conventional Gear Handling Characteristics
  • Aircraft Preflight

Flight Instruction: 8-12 hours Typical

  • Taxing and basic ground handling
  • Basic air work including stalls and slow flight
  • Three Point takeoffs and landings
  • Wheel Landings
  • Short and Soft Field takeoffs and landings
  • X-Wind takeoffs and landings

Approximate cost including books based on 10 hours of aircraft time: $1460.00

To obtain the Conventional Gear/Tailwheel Add On Endorsement under 14CFR 61.31(i) in a compressed time frame

A minimum of two weeks advanced scheduling

  • Hold a valid FAA medical certificate

  • Copy of the PA-12 POH

Prerequisites:

  • Pre-purchase and study of PA-12 POH and The Complete Taildragger Pilot and come to the course with a good understanding of the materials and any questions in writing for the instructor.
